Warts

Common Viral Growths on the Feet
Safe and Effective Treatment for Plantar Warts
Plantar warts are small, rough growths that appear on the bottom of the feet. Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), they develop when the virus enters through tiny cuts or weak spots in the skin. While warts are generally harmless, they can become painful and spread easily without treatment.
What Causes It
Warts are caused by exposure to HPV, typically in warm, moist environments where people walk barefoot—such as pools, locker rooms, and showers. You’re more likely to develop plantar warts if you:
- Walk barefoot in public places
- Have small cuts or cracks in your skin
- Have a weakened immune system
Symptoms
- Rough, grainy growths on the sole or heel
- A small black dot in the center (a clotted blood vessel)
- Pain or tenderness when standing or walking
- Thickened or callused skin over the wart
Warts may grow individually or in clusters called mosaic warts, which can cause additional discomfort.
Treatment Options
Although some plantar warts resolve on their own, treatment helps remove the virus and relieve pain. Options include:
- Topical medications to break down infected skin
- Cryotherapy (freezing) to destroy the wart tissue
- Laser therapy or surgical removal for resistant cases
- Custom orthotics or padding to reduce pressure during healing
To prevent recurrence, avoid walking barefoot in shared spaces, keep feet clean and dry, and change socks daily.
Don’t let foot warts slow you down.
